Your NDIS plan is a document that sets out your goals and the funding available to help you achieve them. Understanding it helps you get the most out of your supports.
The three parts of your plan
Your goals
These are the things you want to achieve β short-term and long-term. Goals might be about daily life, relationships, employment, health, or independence. Your plan is built around them.
Your funding
Your plan includes a budget broken into categories. The three main budget types are Core Support, Capacity Building, and Capital Support.
Your management type
Your plan will say whether your funding is agency-managed, plan-managed, self-managed, or a combination. This affects which providers you can use.
Understanding your budget categories
Core Supports (most flexible)
Funds every day support activities β daily living assistance, community participation, consumables, and transport. You can usually move funds between these sub-categories.
Capacity Building
Funds support to help you build skills and independence over time β support coordination, employment support, improved daily living skills, and more. Funds stay within each sub-category.
Capital Support
Funds high-cost assistive technology and home modifications. Each item has a specific purpose and approval process.
